United States Postal Services (USPS) Honors American Photographers with a New Series of Stamps. In June of 2002 the USPS issued The Masters of American Photography stamp series which includes examples of portrait, documentary, landscape and fine art photography focusing on U.S. history--immigration, the Great Depression and World War II--as well as American photographic accomplishments.
Photographers in the series include Ansel Adams, Alvin Langdon Coburn, Imogen Cunningham, Walker Evans, Josiah Johnson Hawes, Dorothea Lange, Man Ray, Albert Sands Southworth, Alfred Stieglitz, Carleton E. Watkins, Edward Weston and Garry Winogrand. The selection process was led by photography scholar Peter Bunnell. For more information, visit www.usps.org
