Horst Faas has received Germany's highest photo award, the Salomon Prize, for his lifetime achievements as editor and photographer. Faas, who is a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, was awarded the honor by the German Photographic Society during a ceremony on October 1, 2005, in Hanover, Germany. The Salomon Prize was established in 1971 to honor outstanding use of photography in the press.

It celebrates the memory of the photographer Dr. Erich Salomon, widely regarded as the principal founder of modern photojournalism.
