Afterimage, March-April, 2004 by Christian Cravo

Christian Cravo's first book of photographs, entitled Irredentos (the unredeemed) comes from his reflections on the lives and religious devotion of people living in the stark and dry environment of the Brazilian backlands. Cravo was born in 1974 in Bahia, Brazil and grew up in both Brazil and Denmark. Cravo has received numerous recognitions for his work, including Museu de Arte Moderna in Bahia, the Mother Jones Fund for Documentary Photography, and a Guggenheim Fellowship.
