Robert Yekovich has been named dean of the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in Houston, succeeding Michael Hammond, who left Rice to become chair of the National Endowment for the Arts.
The former dean of the School of Music at the North Carolina School of the Arts, Yekovich has a doctoral degree in composition from Columbia University in New York City. During his twelve-year tenure as dean, he established the A. J. Fletcher Opera Institute and brought the Mendelssohn String Quartet as quartet-in-residence, among his accomplishments.
"My experiences here have been a profound part of my personal and professional life," says Yekovich.
