American Music Teacher, August-Sept, 2004
Hal Leonard Corporation President Larry Morton and Boosey & Hawkes President Jennifer Bilfield have announced that effective July 1, Hal Leonard became the exclusive distributor for the classical and educational music catalog of New York-based Boosey & Hawkes. The catalog had been distributed previously by Alfred Publishing Co., Inc.
Boosey & Hawkes is an international publisher representing some of the world's best known composers, including Bartok, Bernstein, Britten, Copland, Prokofieff, Rachmaninoff, Strauss and Stravinsky, among hundreds of others, as well as current masters such as John Adams, Eliott Carter, Ned Rorem, James MacMillan and Steve Reich. Numbering more than 15,000, Boosey publications are a staple for serious musicians of all instruments, and for concert bands, orchestras and choirs.
Milwaukee-based Hal Leonard, the world's largest music print publisher, will be responsible for the sales, distribution and marketing of the Boosey catalog in North America and Latin America, and starting in July 2005, in Australia and New Zealand. Under the terms of the new agreement, the two companies' editorial teams will work together to develop and produce innovative new publications.
The new deal also encompasses exclusive digital print music rights in the territories above. Therefore, much of the Boosey catalog will be made available for download on www.SheetMusicDirect.com, Hal Leonard's joint-venture website with U.K.-based publisher Music Sales Ltd., and on other websites for which Hal Leonard provides content.
