Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition - Items of Interest - Brief Article

The Verklarte Quartet of the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) won the $5,000 Grand Prize and a winner's tour during the 2003 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, hosted by the Fischoff National Chamber Music Association.

In addition, the Verklarte Quartet won the Senior String Division Gold Medal and a $3,000 prize. Also winning in the Senior String Division were the Enso Quartet of Rice University in Houston, receiving the Silver Medal and $2,000, and the Harding Trio of CIM, receiving the Bronze Medal and $1,000.

Winners in the Senior Wind Division included the Arizona State University Saxophone Quartet, receiving the Gold Medal and $3,000; the Triton Brass Quintet of Boston, Massachusetts, receiving the Silver Medal and $2,000; and The Taliesin Trio of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, receiving the Bronze Medal and $1,000.

Florence V. Carroll Junior Prize Division winners (age 18 and younger) included the Ottava String Trio of the Music Institute of Chicago, Illinois, receiving the Gold Medal and $2,000; the Subito Trio of the Music Institute of Chicago, receiving the Silver Medal and $1,500 and the Le Monde Trio of the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, receiving the Bronze Medal and $1,000.

The Fischoff Competition is the largest chamber music competition in the nation. It is the only competition of its size with a separate junior division for students age 18 and younger.
