American Music Teacher, Oct-Nov, 2004
First Act Inc., a musical instrument company based in Newton, Massachusetts, will support the Heifetz International Music Institute Scholarship Program for the second consecutive year. The Heifetz Music Institute is a six-week summer program for serious and talented young artists. The Institute's programs teach gifted musicians the art of communicating and expressing themselves through music to audiences around the world.
The $50,000 First Act grant will be given to twenty young people to experience making music and provide them an opportunity to study with professional musicians in an international atmosphere. First Act is committed to providing the opportunity for enjoyable, progressive and high-quality music education to students of every socio-economic level and community experience.
Since its inception, the Heifetz International Music Institute has sought to incorporate the more traditional programs of lessons, coachings and master classes with an innovative, interdisciplinary curriculum of courses in voice, movement, public speaking, creativity, drama and improvisation. Founded in 1996 by acclaimed violinist and teacher Daniel Heifetz, the Institute has become host to numerous summer courses and one of the nation's most prominent music festivals. Each year, sixty talented young musicians and more than twenty world-famous artists and teachers gather on the campus of the Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.
