Coleman Chamber Ensemble competition - Competitions

The 57th Coleman Chamber Ensemble Competition will take place April 26-27, 2003, at Caltech in Pasadena, California.

Among the prizes will be a $4,000 Coleman-Barstow Award for Strings, a $4,000 Coleman Award for Woodwinds or Brass, a $3,000 Saunderson Award and a $2,000 Russell Award.

The competition is open to nonprofessional instrumental ensembles of three to six players who are prepared under the direction of a professional coach. The average age of the players in each ensemble must be under 26 as of April 26, 2003. Any ensemble devoting a substantial portion of its time performing for a fee is ineligible to compete.

Repertory must include a minimum of two complete works of distinctly contrasting character from two different musical periods and totaling at least thirty minutes of music. Ensembles will be selected based on submitted CDs and cassettes.

Applications must be received by noon on February 20, 2003. No late applications will be accepted. Notification of acceptance or rejection will be sent by March 14. There is a nonrefundable $30 application fee.
