American Music Teacher, Dec, 2002 by Gary L. Ingle
Book clubs and reading recommendations have been popular activities with the public, especially over the last couple of years. One can hardly pick up a newspaper or turn on the television without seeing another well-known personality suggesting "must read" materials.
Now MTNA enters the fray, not to "jump on the bandwagon," but to provide a helpful list of music teaching resources for our members. Earlier this year, a task force appointed by MTNA President R. Wayne Gibson, NCTM, developed a recommended "practical music teacher's library" of books and other media. The task force, chaired by MTNA Vice President for Professional Activities Kathryn Hull, NCTM, and comprised of Jerry Davidson, NCTM, Peggy Lewis, NCTM, and Ellen Shapiro, put together a list of materials they considered essential to the professional development of music teachers.
