Theodore Presser Company is now a distributor for Universal Edition (UE), a European music publisher. Presser distributes UE's print music catalog in the United States and Canada.
Founded in Vienna in 1901 to serve the needs of the Austrian market for editions of standard and educational musical publications, UE quickly incorporated a number of smaller Austrian and German publishers. Under the leadership of Emil Hertzka, UE began publishing the music of such early twentieth-century composers as Bela Bartok, Frederick Delius, Leos Janacek, Ernst Krenek, Gustav Mahler, Karol Szymanowski and Kurt Weill.
Theodore Presser Company was established in 1883 by Theodore Presser and began publishing the music magazine The Etude. The company has grown into a major publisher of musical literature, teaching and concert works for all areas of musical performance. In addition, Presser acts as distributor and/or agent for nearly 100 music publishers from around the world. In 2004, Presser joined forces with New York music publisher Carl Fischer.
