World Choral Music Symposium in Twin Cities - Items of Interest

American Music Teacher, June-July, 2002

Over 3,000 prominent choral specialists, composers, scholars and choirs from around the globe will gather for the Sixth World Symposium on Choral Music August 3-10, 2002, in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota.

During the Symposium, over eighty-five choral performances will be held throughout the Twin Cities, featuring more than forty choirs in delegate and public concerts.

Never before held in the United States, the Symposium will be in Minneapolis and St. Paul in recognition of Minnesota's prominent role in the history of American choral music and the many outstanding choirs that have made Minnesota their home.

"Music has always been a powerful messenger of peace--a common language of inspiration that can span boundaries and unite people in a spirit of good will," said Philip Brunelle, president of the Symposium's board of directors and director of the Plymouth Music Series. "Minnesota is honored to host this once-in-a-lifetime event."

Held every three years, the 2002 Symposium will feature concerts, lectures and repertoire reading sessions. A World Choral Expo at the Minneapolis Convention Center will feature music industry exhibits. During the conference, twenty-two international choirs will perform music indigenous to their region.

The Sixth World Symposium on Choral Music is presented by Marshall Field's Project Imagine and Target Stores, with support from the Target Foundation, and sponsored by Minnesota Public Radio.
