MTNA High School Piano Competition, sponsored by Yamaha Corporation of America, Piano Division
Joseph Liccardo, a senior at Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, New York, is a student of Donald Pirone at the Center for Preparatory Studies in Music at Queens College. Joseph has been a prizewinner and recipient of scholarship awards from the Associated Music Teachers League, the Piano Teachers Congress, New York State Music Teachers Association, the Great Neck Piano Competition and the Brooklyn Arts Council Piano Competition. He has performed with orchestras as a winner of piano concerto competitions.

MTNA High School String Competition, sponsored by the MTNA FOUNDATION
Jennifer Hsiao, 16, studies violin with Teri Einfeldt at the Hartt School Community Division. She was the first-place winner of the ASTA Connecticut State, Connecticut State MTA concerto and Musical Club of Hartford competitions. In 1998, her winning composition was performed by the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. Jennifer has performed as soloist with the Farmington Valley Symphony Orchestra and the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra. She is concertmaster of the Connecticut Youth and a member of the Hartt School Community Division's honors quartet.

MTNA High School Voice Competition, sponsored by the MTNA FOUNDATION
Christie Hageman, 18, currently studies with Donald Pihlaja. She is the valedictorian of the Billings Senior High class. A soprano, she sings for nonprofit organizations' benefits and is gaining singing experience through a local opera company. Christie has been selected to three All-Northwest audition choirs for ACDA and MENC, and has two NATS Exceptional Achievement Recognitions. Christie plans to study voice and civil engineering after high school.

Third Place: Yulia Van Doren, Eastern Division (Pennsylvania); Yelena Van Doren, teacher
MTNA High School Woodwind Competition, sponsored by the MTNA FOUNDATION
Robert Young, a senior at the South Carolina's Governor's School for Art and Humanities, currently studies saxaphone with Clifford Leaman. Robert has received numerous awards and honors such as the All-State Jazz Band, first place in the North Greenville Woodwind Competition, first place in the South Carolina MTA Woodwind competition and first place in the MTNA Southern Division Competitions. Robert plans to attend college and major in music education.
