West Central Division - Division News - Brief Article

American Music Teacher,  June-July, 2003  by Janice Wenger

The West Central Division meeting during the MTNA National Conference in Salt Lake City was attended by fifty-seven members representing all eight states. The no-host dinner immediately following the meeting was enjoyed by eighty-seven members and friends of the division; watch this column for information about the dinner for the 2004 conference in Kansas City.

The annual Iowa State Conference is scheduled for June 1-3 at Central College in Pella. Featured clinicians are Robert Vandall, NCTM, and Ingrid Jacobson Clarfield, NCTM, with special performances by faculty members from Central College and by MTNA 2002 Collegiate Artist Piano Competition Winner Amir Khosrowpour from Kansas.

The Minnesota annual conference is June 9-10 in St. Paul and features Margo Garrett collaborating with Julia Bogorad, flute, and Charles Kavalovski, horn, all Minnesota musicians.

The summer conference for Colorado is June 5-6 at the Inn at Silver Creek, followed by the Student Performance Activities day on June 7. The conference artist is Tony Caramia, professor of piano at the Eastman School of Music and coauthor of the MTNA-IAJE Jazz Studies Guide. Included in the conference will be a discussion of books on the annual PREP (Professional Reading Enrichment Program) list, which this year addressed issues encouraging students' growth outside the practice room.
