Seventeen local associations receive grants

American Music Teacher, June-July, 2004

A total of $5,451 was distributed from the MTNA FOUNDATION FUND to seventeen local associations in 2004. Grant recipients were announced at the State Presidents Advisory Council meeting at the conference in Kansas City in March. Associations receiving grants are:

Bay Area MTA and Midland MTA, MI; Marvin Blickenstaff, presenter

Seacoast Teachers Association, NH; Master Class; Fred Moyer, presenter

Newton MTA, KS; Adopt-A-Composer Project and Concert

Salt Lake Chapter, UT; Certification Training

Salem District OMTA, OR; Eurhythmics and the Rhythm Inside

Blue Mountain District OMTA, OR; Beginning Composition Workshop

Chattanooga MTA, TN; Workshop and Master Class; Joanne Smith, presenter

Okanogan County WSMTA, WA; Composition Workshop; Peter Wolf, presenter

Baldwin County MTA, AL; Technique Tournament

Capital Area MTA, MI; Piano Construction Workshop

Northern Delaware Valley Chapter, PA; Reintroducing Bach to Children; Paul Sheftel, presenter

Central PA Chapter, PA; Improvisation Workshop and Master Class

Palm Beach County MTA, FL; Website Design and Implementation

Bellingham Chapter, WA; Hands Across the Border

Lincoln County District OMTA, OR; Baroque Performance Practice for Pianists

Ogden Chapter, UT; Piano Team Festival

Olympia Chapter, WSMTA, WA; Baroque Festival

The MTNA FOUNDATION FUND awards these annual grants to provide assistance to MTNA-affiliated local associations and newly established or currently forming affiliated locals for the education and professional development of teachers and for the promotion of music in the immediate community. Any MTNA-affiliated local may apply. Projects funded include clinics, master classes, seminars, educational workshops to prepare for certification examinations, community outreach projects and projects promoting interaction between local associations and student chapters, area colleges or other musical or arts organizations.

Applications and guidelines for the 2005 grant program will be available September 1, 2004. The deadline fro" receiving completed applications will be February 1, 2005. Recipients will be announced at the 2005 MTNA National Conference in Seattle, Washington, in April, and will receive funds no later than May 1.
