FROM CHETNA NEWS - RECENT ACTIVITIES

"Nutrition status of women is intrinsically linked with her position in the family and the community. Over the past two decades, CHETNA has developed a variety of innovative approaches to address nutrition concerns of women, adolescents and children. CHETNA's experiences were shared to promote nutrition awareness through presentation of a paper on "Sustainable Processes for Promoting Complementary Feeding of Infants" in a Regional Advocacy Workshop on Nutrition organized by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

CHETNA was invited by UNICEF, National Institute of Health Family and Welfare (NIHFW) and National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development (NIPCCD) for building the capacity of functionaries implementing the major programmes in India for improving the nuitrition and health status of disadvantaged women and children.

Concerns of anaemia and its impact on the health of adolescents including their sexual and reproductive health are critical to achieving CHETNA's mission. In this context, CHETNA contributed in a number of training programmes which included strategies for preventing nutritional anaemia among children and adolescents. CHETNA Rajasthan shared experience on the "Reproductive Health and Nuitrition of Adolescents: Innovative Approaches of CHETNA" on the occation of world population day.

CHETNA's Women's Health and Development Resource Center (WHDRC) organized workshops to review the areas of concern and action for enabling collective advocacy on women's health and development and also participated in the task force meeting on 'Beyond Bejing + five'. WHDRC team was invited to participate in the Exchange visit to Phillipines organized by the Asian-Pacific Resource and Research Centre for Women and also facilitated the visit of NGO's in India. Recognizing the critical role of literacy in human development, CHETNA participated in a National Conference on Innovations in Post Literacy and Lifelong Phase organized by the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedbad.

The highlight of the year was the celebration of CHETNA foundation day on August 12, which marked the completion of two decades of commitment and contribution in the field of development of women and children."
