"CAFRA NEWS is the biannual magazine and networking tool of the CARIBBEAN ASSOCIATION FOR FEMINIST RESEARCH AND ACTION (CAFRA). Its main purposes are to:

* Inform members and others interested about the activities and programmes of the association

* Provide a forum for discussions and debate on key issues of concern to women in the region

* Promote the sharing of experiences and foster links among individual feminists, activists and women's organisations

* Assist in breaking down language barriers in the region

* Stimulate women's creative expression

* Contribute to the development of the women's movement regionally and internationally.

FROM THE EDITORIAL - WORKING TOGETHER FOR PEOPLE-CENTRED DEVELOPMENT

CAFRA's mission is to celebrate and channel the collective power of women for individual and societal transformation, thus creating a climate in which social justice is realised.

In working towards the fulfillment of its mission, CAFRA faces the formidable challenge of working with other regional networks/agencies that share a similar vision for the Caribbean - a vision of development that is people-centred and sustainable politically, economically, socially, technologically, culturally and spirtually. In a nutshell, as succinctly put in the theme for the International Year of Older Persons, 'A Society for all Ages,' thriving in an environment' of social justice.

Through a programme of functional cooperation, regional networks of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have formed a strategic alliance for resource-sharing and joint programme development. The effort must now advance further to the collective bargaining for financial resources[ldots] CAFRA is prepared to cooperate fully with other social partners in areas where collective action is the best option[ldots]
