Navigation Systems - motor vehicle - Brief Article

Automotive Industries, Nov, 2000

Several companies offer in-vehicle navigation systems, either off CD-ROM and DVD or from a service provider. Although all of the systems achieve nearly the same result, they all use different types of architecture in the vehicle. For example, SmartMove's end-to-end Open Telematics Framework operates on a Java-based open architecture while InfoGation's Odyssey 2000 uses a Clarion AutoPC with Microsoft automotive software.

Other companies offering navigation solutions include Denso with a DVD-based system, as well as Trafficstation and MagnaWorks' Navex, both wireless services.
