Automotive Industries, Nov, 2002
Key to its three year turnaround plan, Mitsubishi Motors Corp. unveiled its new Colt subcompact car in Japan.
The vehicle is the first of 15 new Mitsubishi models in Japan by 2007. It is also the first since the company announced a major reorganization of its dealers in that market.
The Colt's platform was jointly developed with DaimlerChrysler AG, which owns a stake in Mitsubishi. It also will be used by both Mitsubishi and Micro Compact Car (Smart) for a family of compact cars set to be built at Mitsubishi's Netherlands Car B.V. (NedCar) plant starting in 2004 with additional plants possibly coming online after 2004. Each vehicle will have its own interior and exterior design.
Mitsubishi plans to build about 100,000 units of the European version of the Colt, which is currently being called the NCC for New Compact Car.
