DaimlerChrysler AG is adding production of a new four-seat Smart Car to its Juiz de Fora, Brazil, plant, and opening up the possibility that the mini-vehicle will be sent to the U.S. Juergen Hubbert, DC boardmember in charge of Mercedes cars said in a statement that production in Brazil was a major step, towards Smart's entry in the U.S.

The new vehicle is under development with DC partner Mitsubshi Motors Corp., which will build its own version of the vehicle at its NedCar plant in Born, the Netherlands.
