Permanent magnet motors

Automotive Industries, Dec, 2003

ABB's permanent magnet motor is an AC synchronous motor. This design was created to offer a motor with no rotor slip, which provides better accuracy than standard motors. According to ABB, synchronous motors lend themselves to optimization of speed. ABB also contends that the elimination of slip losses in the rotor of the motor increases the efficiency of the motor from 1 to 3 percent.
