Carpenter Wins Contract
Carpenter Technology Corp. signs a three-year contract to be the global supplier of high-temperature alloy valve steel to Eaton Corp.'s engine components operations. The contract is valued at more than $40 million over three years.
Internet Acquires Anton, Diversified
Internet Corp. acquires Ganton Technologies Inc. and Diversified Diemakers Inc. This acquisition gives Internet additional capacity for the manufacture of aluminum and magnesium automotive components.
PPG Joins Forces with AECI
Pittsburgh-based PPG Industries and Johannesburg, South Africa-based AECI Ltd. join forces in an automotive refinish, auto original equipment and industrial coatings venture based on AECI's technical coating division at Port Elizabeth. The new unit will also have access to additional PPG technologies, including industrial coatings, adhesives, sealants and metal pre-treatments.
FabriSteel Purchases Nelson
FabriSteel Products Inc., headquartered in Taylor, Mich., announces its agreement to purchase Elyria, Ohio-based Nelson Stud Welding from TRW. The transaction should be completed by the end of the first quarter 2000.
ETREMA, American Axle Partner
Ames, Iowa-based ETREMA Products Inc., a subsidiary of Edge Technologies Inc., announces its partnership with American Axle and Manufacturing to develop a device using ETREMA's TERFENOL-D technology. The partnership encompasses the development of anti-noise and vibration technology using TERFENOL-D, and the basis for a long-term supply contract.
Eco Seal, mec.com Partner
Eco Seal Tech Inc. announces an exclusive partnership with mec.com, an Austrian manufacturer of high-precision components for engines, powertrains and transmissions. This alliance allows Eco Seal Tech to represent the complete mec.com product line in North America.
Toyota To Expand Indiana Plant
Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana (TMMI) plans to increase its production capacity by 150,000 units. An $800 million investment will be made at the plant site, and 2,000 jobs will be added, bringing total production capacity to 300,000 per year when the expansion is complete.
PCB, Bruel Join Forces
The PCB group of companies and Bruel Bertrand Johnson Acoustics Inc. will jointly distribute and market BBJA's acoustic measuring products. The agreement involves all PCB Group companies, including Larson Davis and The Modal Shop. Both are focused in the acoustics market. The PCB group also specializes in vibration.
Rapid Design Acquires PGK
Troy, Mich.-based Rapid Design Service Inc., a global supplier of engineering and design services, acquires Sterling Heights, Mich.-based PGK Services Inc., a full-service vehicle engineering, design and development firm, and its affiliate Centennial Mold, a supplier of prototype and production molds, fixtures, gauges and secondary equipment.
SANLUIS Rassini Opens Plant
SANLUIS Rassini opens a new $5 million high stress coil springs plant in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico. The plant has a production capacity of 11 coil springs per minute and has 22 employees.
AM General To Expand In Indiana
South Bend, Ind.-based AM General Corp. will build a second facility at its current McKinley Highway plant in Mishawaka, Ind., for the production of additional commercial HUMMERs. Expansion plans include the acquisition of 35 acres of land, resulting in 630,000 sq. ft. of new production space.
HI TecMetal Acquires Fusion
HI TecMetal Group acquires Fusion Engineering Co., a Columbus, Ohio-based industrial design, engineering and tooling business. The company, renamed HTG Fusion Product Design, has two locations in Columbus.
Boeing To Acquire Hughes Operation
The Boeing Co. will acquire the Hughes Electronics Corp. satellite systems businesses in an all-cash transaction of $3.75 billion. The units have a combined workforce of about 9,000 employees, and are expected to have 1999 revenues of $2.3 billion, with a current backlog of more than 36 satellites valued at more than $4 billion.

Lake Forest, Ill.-based Tenneco Automotive chooses Stern Stewart and Co. to assist with the implementation of the economic value-added management (EVA) system. The EVA system helps measure a company's value with a goal toward driving sustainable shareholder wealth.
Omron Announces New Headquarters
Omron Automotive Electronics plans to open a new North American headquarters in Novi, Mich., this fall. The 12,000-sq.-ft. building will be home to sales and administrative offices, as well as applications engineering facilities.
Accuride Announces Expansion
Accuride Corp., a manufacturer and supplier of steel and aluminum heavy-and medium-duty wheels, announces it will invest $22.4 million in the expansion of its aluminum production capacity and product line offerings. Plans include the installation of a 7,000-ton press and related spinning, heat treating, machining and polishing equipment.
