Photron has unveiled a microscopy camera system that has been designed to increase the depth of focus displayed According to the company, a piezoelectric actuator physically moves the objective lens at a rate of 30 times per second while the camera records at the 1,000 frames per second (fps) resulting in approximately 30 fps, each with a different focal point. In real time the camera processor analyzes each of the frames to find those sharply focused pixels and then integrates those pixels, along with the other 29 for that second, into a single "all-in-focus" image for display and recording, Photron says.
