Ford To Unseat Gm As No. 1

Everyone's suggesting that Ford will soon overtake General Motors as the world's largest automaker. But no one knows for sure when -- that is, until now. Ford President Jac Nasser told the world when he received AI's 1999 Executive of the Year award. When asked the question during the EOY luncheon, he quipped straight-faced, "Tuesday." No year, just Tuesday.

Nasser also didn't rule out the possibility of more DaimlerChrysler executives moving to Ford. DC honchos Chris Theodore and Sham Rushwin made the move last month. When Editor-In-Chief Marjorie Sorge introduced Nasser at the lunch, she kiddingly told him there were phone calls from DaimlerChrysler waiting for him. "Are they collect?" he hollered from his seat.
