Between 40% to 50% of the U.S. automotive workforce will be eligible for retirement in the next five years, says Jeff Schmidt, a manger at Towers Perrin, a human resources consulting firm. Finding the right skilled workers to fill that gap will be a huge challenge, since automakers must now compete with other industries for skilled talent.
In the future, automakers must focus on an improved work environment and learning development opportunities.
