General Motors Vice President Harold Kutner, head of worldwide purchasing, leaves no doubt the supplier industry will continue to shrink. Kutner, whose division will buy $86 billion worth of automotive parts this year, predicts the number of major suppliers to GM will fall from 3,000 to 2,000 over the next few years.
