Over the next 10 years, the Internet will have the same dramatic impact on the world as Henry Ford's innovative production system developed almost 100 years ago. The moving assembly line fueled the economy and created new brands that dominated the rest of the century. A San Francisco-based economic forecaster expects the same pattern to emerge again, but on a bigger scale.

"The Internet is to the new economy what the assembly line was to this economy," says Harry Dent, author of several books on the changing workplace. Businesses who find innovative ways to use the Internet to offer consumers low-cost customization and convenience will emerge as brand leaders for the next several generations, he says.
