Industry: Email Alert RSS FeedToned Down Beetle Targeted For Germany
Automotive Industries, June, 1999 by Norman Martin
Volkswagen is planning a cheaper model of its Mexico-made Beetle for Germany. That country has shown little interest in the car, despite its success in the U.S. "We let ourselves be led by the enthusiasm in America. That was a mistake," says VW Chairman Ferdinand Piech. The new model would have a less-powerful engine and cost about $3,000 less than the current model.
