Vw Moves Up-Scale With Two New Models

Automotive Industries,  August, 1999

Volkswagen will build two new luxury sedans -- the D1 and Passat Plus, says German trade magazine Auto Zeitung. The Dresden-built D1 is supposed to be powered by a 12-cylinder and be available in late 2000. Look for a price tag under $77,000. The Passat Plus is due in mid-2000, and will cost under $35,000, have a more powerful engine and be about 5 inches longer than the current Passat.
