Time Inc. hopes to extend its presence in the African-American community now that it has a 49 percent stake in Essence Communications. In turn, ECI wants to extend its Essence/Latina brands through the vast media food chain of Time Inc. (and parent Time Warner), with increased potential should the AOL/Time Warner merger meet with Federal approval (as is expected).
