DEATHS
Walter Annenberg, who founded TV Guide and Seventeen magazines and also served as an ambassador to Britain, died late last month at the age of 94. Annenberg inherited The Philadelphia Inquirer and two racing publications from his father in 1942. He went on to build Triangle Publications into a multibillion-dollar business that included newspapers, magazines, radio, and television stations. He founded Seventeen in 1944, and established TV Guide in 1953. Annenberg eventually sold off Triangle properties, including TV Guide, which he sold to Rupert Murdoch in 1988 for $3 million.
H. Pettus Randall II, chairman and CEO, Randall Publishing Company, died on September 7, at the age of 57. He took over the company - which his father started in 1934 - in 1976, at the time merging it with Award Company of America, which he had started. In 1984, he was named chairman and CEO of the media company, which operates publications in the trucking, construction and industrial categories.
