AVERAGE BASE SALARIES FOR THE LAST FIVE YEARS
Production directors' pay grew moderately this year, for a five-year
compound annual growth rate of 5 percent. Salaries for those at consumer
titles, which increased 7.5 percent, significantly outpaced salaries for
those at business titles (an increase of just 1.5 percent). This is a
direct turnaround from 2000, when business pay shot up 15 percent and
consumer pay gained just 1.3 percent.

Directly responsible for daily production operations on one or more titles, including publication page make-up, quality control and maintenance of production schedules; is liaison with printing plant and service bureaus. In addition, may oversee traffic of advertising and editorial materials.
LOWEST AND HIGHEST SALARY REPORTED: $24,500/$118,000
AVERAGE BASE SALARIES FOR THE LAST FIVE YEARS
Although salaries for production managers at consumer titles show the
best individual five-year growth among production workers (7.7 percent),
average salaries for production managers went flat this year. Managers
at business titles even lost a few dollars, on average, from $46,708
last year to $46,527 this year.
