Dwell magazine announced the following advertising appointments: Allyson Deane and Lisa Friedman to directors of consumer advertising. Jointly, the two have represented magazines including Wired and Popular Science. Previously, Deane worked in various capacities at PC Magazine and Better Homes and Gardens. Friedman served in several roles at Ziff Davis, including district sales representative for PC Magazine.

Randie Dalia to advertising director, Palm Beach Illustrated. Promoted from National advertising manager.

Gigi Volk to western sales director, Budget Living. Previously, she was west coast associate publisher of Ziff Davis's Smart Business.

Virginia Smith to fashion market director, Vogue, from vice president of public relations, Calvin Klein.

Robert L. Kimmerle to midwest sales manager, Budget Living. He founded MidAmerica Publishers' Service and previously worked as a midwest sales representative for Gruner + Jahr USA.

Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel announced the following additions to its sales team: Deborah Howard Western has been named western advertising manager, and Tom Lloyd was named Detroit advertising manager.

Kathleen Beatty to financial category manager, BusinessWeek, from national advertising director, Worth magazine.

Michael O'Brien to account executive, USA Weekend magazine. Previously, he was midwest account executive at Time4 Media's Field & Stream and Outdoor Life.

CORPORATE

Ann Moore to chief executive and chairman, Time Inc., from executive vice president.

Elizabeth Crow to executive vice president and editorial director of Primedia's Consumer Magazines and Media Group. Most recently, she was editorial director of Rodale's women's health group.

Paul Andrews to vice president of interactive for Cygnus Business Media. He was previously regional sales manager for Real Media, a global interactive advertising network.

EDITORIAL & ART

Meredith announced editorial changes at Ladies' Home Journal. Diane Salvatore was named editor-in-chief, and Mary Witherell was named managing editor. Salvatore was director of editorial operations at Hearst. Witherell was managing editor at CosmoGirl.

Peter Sikowitz to executive editor, Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel. He was assistant managing editor for the Custom Publishing division of Time Inc.

Weider Publications' Shape magazine announced the following editorial appointments: Kristina Coleman was named fashion editor, Dinah Erasmus was named to the new position of fashion assistant, and Cara Shapiro was named associate fashion editor. Coleman was promoted from senior associate fashion editor. Erasmus was previously a features assistant at Vogue. Shapiro was a fashion stylist at Seventeen and a contributing fashion editor at Nylon.

Tucker Carlson to pen monthly political column, "That's Outrageous," for Reader's Digest. Carlson is the co-host of CNN's "Crossfire" and previously covered politics and campaigns for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in Little Rock.

MANAGEMENT

Jill Hilgenberg to show manager of Cygnus Expositions' GSE International Expo, an event for aviation industry ground support. Most recently, she was director/sales manager of Freeman Decorating Company in Chicago.

David Kahn to publisher, Latina magazine, from publisher, The New Yorker.

MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS

Cristina Santos to manager, communications, for the Magazine Publishers of America. Most recently, she was an account executive at Multicultural Marketing Resources, a public relations and marketing firm specializing in diverse markets.

NEW MEDIA

Caren L. Sinclair-Kay to senior director of online for Men's Health and Rodale's sports brands, Backpacker, Bicycling, Mountain Bike, Runner's World, and Rodale's Scuba Diving. She was vice president of business and network development for Oxygen Media.

RETIRED

The Direct Marketing Association announced the retirement of Lee Cassidy, executive director of the DMA Nonprofit Federation. He served for nine years as executive director of the National Federation of Nonprofits (NFN), which merged with the DMA's Nonprofit Council in 2000 to form the federation.

DEATHS

Harry V. Quadracci, president and founder of Quad/Graphics. The 66-year-old entrepreneur founded printing company Quad/Graphics in 1971. Today it is the largest privately held printing company in North America. He is survived by his wife, Betty, who is the publisher of Milwaukee magazine, and four children.
