Folio: The Magazine for Magazine Management, Feb 1, 2003

The magazine scene closed out 2002 with a bang, thanks to Black Book. While most everyone in the business was either packing for flights home or closing ill-timed issues the week before Christmas, Black Book invited a few hundred of its closest friends to jam the latest hot spot, Powder, and let sponsor Diesel pick up the tab.

After a week spent eating sugar cookies, however, guests of January parties were feeling a bit tame. Yet Saveur was still brave enough to host a party about food - Texas cuisine, at that.

Meredith, on the other hand, went with the prevailing mood and hosted two quiet events. Ladies' Home Journal held a lunch at L.A.'s Spago in honor of February covergirl Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York. More threw an intimate cocktail party for socialite Nina Griscom at her home in Manhattan. But these were just a warm-up for the calculated excesses of the February Fashion Week to come.
