Folio: The Magazine for Magazine Management, March, 2002 by Whitney Joiner

SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT/DIRECTOR OF PRINT SERVICES, ZENITH MEDIA

What magazines do you subscribe to?

I get comped on every magazine imaginable.

Which do you read religiously?

InStyle, Marie Claire, Fast Company, New York and The New York Times Magazine.

And, on occasion, The New Yorker.

Which end up in a pile next to the bed? The shelter magazines--I'II flip through them, but it's much more of a voyeuristic, aspirational read. The alternative magazines, like Out and The Advocate, I'll look at for positioning and competitive reasons. For business information I'll look at Business Week and The Week as a nice roundup of what's been happening. But the Forbes-es and Fortunes get put to the side, along with epicurean titles. (My kitchen should be turned into a walk-in closet. I think I've cooked three times since I bought my apartment nine years ago.) Time and Newsweek go in the "must read" pile.

If you could subscribe to only one magazine, which would it be?

I'd have to subscribe to two, because I couldn't choose one: In Style to satiate the vapid side, and Time or Newsweek.

Favorite guilty-pleasure read? The New York Post.

Women's/men's must-read?

I can't live without Harper's Bazaar. Marie Claire because of the international women's issues they talk about. And Esquire. Love Esquire. Huge fan.
