Folio: The Magazine for Magazine Management, April 1, 2003

At long last, spring! - which means that some fortunate mags will be showcasing fatter issues again. (Or do they just seem fat after two winters of starvation?) It's the season for redesigns, anniversaries, and awards - all of which require a (New York) party, of course.

Though Rolling Stone and Blender went toe-to-toe with dueling Grammy Week blowouts, Vibe and Spin chose to keep their heads down with a quiet soiree at The Park. Editors Emil Wilbekin and Sia Michel took turns on the turntables as guest DJs.

Ladies' Home Journal and Smithsonian were two old magazines celebrating new looks, while Esquire threw a party to kick off a year-long celebration of its 70th anniversary. The granddaddy of today's men's magazines helped reopen the legendary pub P.J. Clarke's; next up is the book party for its '60s cover genius, George Lois.
