H&S MEDIA CUTS STAFF, CLOSES TWO MAGAZINES

Folio: The Magazine for Magazine Management, May, 2001

In April, H&S Media Inc. announced the layoffs of 15 employees, the relocation of TeenStyle, and closure of two of its titles--celebrity-teen magazine Hot and Pojo's Pokemon.

Although the nearly two-year-old, 230,000-circulation fashion-focused TeenStyle experienced a drop-off in newsstand sales in a saturated teen market, the company says it remains invested in the magazine. The title is reportedly relocating to Illinois from Los Angeles to undergo a "retooling."

Hot and Pojo's Pokemon, however, will publish their last issues in June. Hot's current circulation is 120,000, down from 306,945 last June; Pojo's Pokemon's circulation dropped from 240,250 last June to its current 120,000.
