What Strawberry Saroyan Reads:

Folio: The Magazine for Magazine Management, July 1, 2003

"I read everything. I can't resist. I'm not wildly loyal to a particular book. Vogue, House Beautiful, W - I get a visual buzz off those, but I don't subscribe. I'm getting a couple of magazines because of these insane free trials: Elle and Us Weekly. In London [she's recently returned after living there for two years] I didn't have TV, to detox from media. I would read Vanity Fair. It's got a really good mix. Graydon [Carter] has kept it going. There's fun stuff, and you can have a brain. I'm pretty impressed by Los Angeles now - if the cover catches my eye, I will check it out. Recently Details had Owen Wilson on the cover, and I think he's the sexiest man in Hollywood. In the U.K., Harpers & Queen is actually kind of chic. I enjoyed it. This is so girly, but Allure is like a source book [for me]. I will totally take their advice. It's very reliable; I trust it. I also, of course, read The New Yorker. It's very smart writing."

AND WHAT SHE WON'T READ:

I was at Conde Nast, I would read WWD, because it was around and it was fun. But when you're not in New York, it's so industry. Now W is enough, and it's great."

STRAWBERRY SAROYAN'S BOOK, GIRL WALKS INTO A BAR: A MEMOIR, WILL BE PUBLISHED THIS MONTH BY RANDOM HOUSE. SAROYAN WAS AN EDITOR AT CONDE NAST TRAVELER, AND SHE HAS WRITTEN FOR SALON.COM, ELLE, AND VOGUE. SHE LIVES IN LOS ANGELES.
