'Yankee' grabs CRMA gold

Folio: The Magazine for Magazine Management, June 15, 1995

At 6" x 9", Yankee packs a lot of visual punch into its small package. The Dublin, New Hampshire-based title won four gold medals for design at the City & Regional Magazine Association's annual White Awards ceremony in May. On the writing side, Milwaukee grabbed three golds and the bronze for general excellence among titles with circulations below 50,000.

The general excellence gold went to Indianapolis Monthly, the silver to Aspen. The other big winner at the event, held this year in Memphis, was San Francisco Focus, which took home six design awards and two for writing, including a gold in each category. Pittsburgh won the gold for general excellence among titles with circulations over 50,000; Los Angeles-based Buzz took the silver; and Alaska captured the bronze. Buzz also earned gold medals for best overall design and public-interest reporting. Atlanta received five awards (three silver and two bronze), Toronto Life took four (including two golds), and Memphis and Phoenix nabbed three medals apiece. Burt Cohen, president of Minneapolis-based MSP Communications (Mpls.St.Paul), was honored as the 1995 recipient of the CRMA's Lifetime Achievement Award.
