Curio

Folio: The Magazine for Magazine Management, August 1, 1996 by Cris Beam

Creating what she calls an oxymoron by merging zine culture with a national voice, editor and publisher M. Teresa Lawrence launched Curio, a quarterly for the ever-elusive 25- to 35-year-old set. It's packed with photography illustrations and writing taken mostly from zines and their creators, but packaged as a glossy, national magazine. "I'm using art to get people to think about social issues," Lawrence says. "And I'm trying to promote young artists and people who have passion for their work."

Curio's targeted circulation is 50,000. The cover price is $3.50, and a subscription costs $12. The rate for a one-time full-page black-and-white ad is $2,250. Address: 81 Pondfield Rd.,#264, Bronxville, NY 10708. Telephone: 914-961-8649.
