Ringier America, Inc., in a move to reduce debt and concentrate on its core businesses, sold its Special interest Magazine Group to R.R. Donnelley & Sons in early June. Terms were not disclosed for the deal, which gives Donnelley two Ringier short-run plants in Pontiac, Illinois, and Senatobia, Mississippi--plus nearly 900 employees.

The SIM Group represented 20 percent ($122 million) of the company's 1992 sales of $610 million. Ringier's remaining businesses include the Publication and Commercial Group--which prints consumer magazines such as National Geographic, Elle and Ebony, as well as catalogs and newspaper inserts--and the Paperback Book Group.
