Ziff-Davis extends healthcare coverage to include domestic partners

Folio: The Magazine for Magazine Management, August 1, 1993

Last December, computer publishing giant IDG announced an expansion of its U.S. employee healthcare benefits to include spousal equivalents. Now, rival Ziff-Davis Publishing has adopted a similar policy for domestic partners of its employees. Under the plan, workers whose "committed life relationships" do not fit within the traditional definition of marriage and family are eligible for the same healthcare benefits available to married Ziff employees.

The main criteria: Partners must have lived together for at least a year prior to applying for benefits, and must be jointly responsible for each other's common welfare and financial obligations.
