Skipper lands Disney promotion - John Skipper; Walt Disney Co. Walt Disney Publications Inc - Brief Article

Folio: The Magazine for Magazine Management, Sept 1, 1994

John Skipper, who has led the Walt Disney Company's magazine division to profitability, will now oversee all of the company's publishing operations. Already in the works are book spin-offs of DisneyAdventures and Discover, with a Family Fun line extension possible as well. And Disney is actively exploring a Sunday supplement for kids, targeted at a slightly older and hipper audience than the readers of Adventures.

Skipper, who joined Disney in 1990, is now responsible for the company's several adult and children's imprints, direct-response publishing, and its licensing operation, which includes Welsh Publishing's MickeyMouse. He replaces Michael Lynton, who now heads Disney's Hollywood Pictures division. Disney has retained Dorian Adams, formerly of Whittle and Esquire, to work full-time on determining the feasibility of a mass-circulation kids' magazine. A test of several million copies is expected in mid-1995.
