The women's room - new look of Lear's magazine - Magazine Watch - Relaunches & Redesigns - Brief Article

Folio: The Magazine for Magazine Management, Oct 15, 1993

When Lear's celebrated its fifth anniversary last March, "the magazine had evolved and so had its audience," says editor in chief Caroline Miller, "and it was time for Lear's to reflect the |current~ sensibilities of its audience." So to update its image, Lear's redesigned with the objective of imparting more energy, both editorially and through the graphic design, while retaining its feminine character. Editorial carries a stronger voice, with more emphasis on women's issues and a stronger mix of features dealing with successful, "higher octane" people.

Art director Robin Harvey, most recently of Harpers & Queen, the upscale British monthly, is responsible for the bolder graphics that reflect the new editorial tone and a looser, more sophisticated image. The update was effective with the September issue.
