Peterson snaps up Sassy - Peterson Publishing to acquire Sassy magazine from Lang Communications - Brief Article

Folio: The Magazine for Magazine Management, Nov 15, 1994

Petersen Publishing, the Los Angeles-based publisher of more than 20 special-interest magazines, including Motor Trend and 'Teen, has signed a letter of intent to buy Sassy from Lang Communications. The deal is expected to close within a month. Insiders say Petersen is not likely to shut Sassy down, but will instead use it to complement 'Teen, with some restructuring of Sassy's content probable.

It isn't yet clear whether any Sassy staffers will be offered jobs by Petersen following their dismissal by Lang. 'Teen's current ratebase is 1.1 million; Sassy's is 800,000. Through September, 'Teen's ad pages increased more than 16 percent, to 492 from 423 over the same period last year. Sassy's pages, meanwhile, were off more than 10 percent, from 390 to 351.
