Opus aims to build 25-title network of bridal guides - Opus Publishing adds Atlanta Weddings and Maryland Bride - Brief Article

Folio: The Magazine for Magazine Management, Feb 1, 1993

The fledgling New York City-based firm known as Opus Publishing quietly added two more regional bridal magazines to its stable with the recent purchase of Atlanta Weddings and Maryland Bride. Opus chairman Richard Linhart, a veteran of eighties' venture-capital giant Wesray Capital Corp., says his plan is to build a nationwide network of regional bridal guides.

"It's our plan to enter three to five new markets in 1993," he says. "Ultimately, we'd like to be in the top 20 to 25 markets." Currently, Opus Publishing has bridal books in New York, California, Illinois, New Jersey, Maryland and Georgia. Linhart aims to be strong in each market with local retail advertising. In fact, he says he is in search of a national advertising director to go after national ads for the small but growing Opus network. "Hopefully we'll be the dominant regional book in each market," he says, adding that the long-term strategy involves a "three- to five-year plan."
