Retail buying in quantities - apparel, hardware, food, automotives, to name a few - whether for wholesale benefit or resale, is the business of the retail membership club, and in December, Fairchild Publications, a Capital Cities/ABC, Inc., company, introduced Club News, targeting executives at the headquarters and regional sites of retail membership clubs.

Says Fairchild's executive publisher, Olivia Thompson, "Clubs are the fastest-growing retail format, projecting $34 billion in sales for 1992, up from $6 billion in 1985." She also notes that Club News is the first publication aimed solely at the club retailer. Editorial focuses on management, buying, merchandising and operation functions within the clubs. Product stories, club business strategies, technology features, a Market in Action page, and reactions from discount stores and department stores to new clubs in the area are topics covered. Circulation is 10,000 nonpaid, and a yearly subscription is $195 to people outside the club trade. David Rothgeb is associate publisher; David Merrefield is editor.
