"Matchbook cars, Tonka trucks, GI Joe figures, Marx playsets - name a toy and people are collecting it," says Jim Bunte, editor of Collecting Toys. Published by Kalmbach Publishing Co., the title spins off from Classic Toy Trains, is a bi-monthly with a start-up date this month, and targets toy collectors and enthusiasts.

Collecting Toys focuses on boys' toys from the 1940s through the 1970s. it is editorially based, with articles exploring the history of toys, how they were created, manufactured and marketed, tips on collecting, current toy values, new releases, and how to repair and restore collectible toys. According to Bunte, the goal is to "provide collectors with accurate, entertaining information that will help them make intelligent, enjoyable and profitable additions to their toy collections." Model kits, board games and more are also covered. Circulation is 30,000 paid. A subscription costs $14.95; the cover price is $3.95. The ad rate for a black-and-white page is $600.
