Digital photos from Corbis Media

Folio: The Magazine for Magazine Management, Feb 1, 1995 by Debby Patz

Continuum Productions Corp., founded by Microsoft's Bill Gates, has introduced a new division called Corbis Media, which will sell digital stock photos and fine art. Corbis does research for users based on phone requests, then creates a custom CD-ROM catalog of choices to send to the client. Unlike most agencies, which deliver licensed images as film, the Bellevue, Washington-based Corbis does its image scanning in-house, offering only highresolution digital image files.

Those highres images are not available for down-loading, but are delivered the next day on CD or diskette, after the user makes a final choice. Corbis Media's collection can be previewed on America Online by typing Go Corbis.
