New York Times Co. puts unit up for sale

Folio: The Magazine for Magazine Management, April 1, 1997 by Ann Marie Kerwin

The NYT Custom Publishing division, which produces magazines for clients including IBM and Blockbuster Entertainment, is for sale. Under president Richard Stockton, the group had 1996 revenues of $13,747,000 and is currently producing seven titles. IBM's Beyond Computing and Think Leadership; The Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts magazine; the Getaway Guide for the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism; the Connecticut Vacation Guide for Connecticut's Department of Economic and Community Development; Blockbuster's Feature, and Trump Style for the Trump Organization.

The custom-publishing unit is housed under The New York Times Information Services Group, which is undergoing a reorganization following the departure of Times Co. president Lance Primis and NYTISG president James Cutie last fall. (Primis was responsible for establishing the division.) The Jordan Edmiston Group, based in New York City, is handling the sale.
