The Archives of Family Medicine, the first new scientific journal the AMA has launched in 66 years, joins the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) and the Association's nine monthly specialty journals, with its debut this month. The title's frequency is monthly, and the target is the family physician.

According to publisher Michael Springer, the family physician is "the gatekeeper of treatment of the total patient in the context of the family, community and society," and Family Medicine is designed to meet the practical needs of these doctors. Editorial provides peer-reviewed original clinical and laboratory research in the specialty, clinical advances in related disciplines, along with practice information in the form of review and how-to articles. The magazine also features articles on medical ethics, clinical decision-making, practice management and socioeconomic news and issues. Circulation is 80,000 paid and nonpaid.
